How can I clean the dolls? Can I wash the dolls?
We recommend gently cleaning your doll with a damp cloth.
However, if you find that a gentle cleaning with a damp cloth isn’t enough, you can wash the doll by hand.
Given that our cherished dolls are filled with carded sheep’s wool, we generally advise gentle hand washing using a mild detergent or wool-specific detergent. Unfortunately, vigorous spinning is not recommended, as it may result in irreversibly clumping the wool.
Here’s how:
1. Maintain a moderate water temperature and use plenty of water to fill a basin or sink. Pre-soak the doll with clear water of the same temperature.
2. Dissolve a small amount of wool detergent and gently move the doll within the solution, then gently rub the fabric to remove any dirt or stains.
3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Avoid rubbing, brushing, spinning, or wringing during the washing process. To maintain the doll’s shape, it’s important to avoid squeezing it too tightly, especially since it’s filled with wool. Excessive pressure could irreparably alter its form.
4. After washing, carefully squeeze out excess water, and allow it to air dry naturally on a towel. To facilitate the drying process, periodically move the doll as it dries. The wool’s wet smell will disappear after drying.
5. It’s important to make sure the doll is fully dry before storing it.
Can I wash the dolls in a washing machine?
No. Due to their delicate hand-embroidered faces and wool stuffing, it’s best to avoid machine washing.
We do not recommend washing our dolls in a machine or using tumble dry. Washing handmade wool stuffed dolls in a washing machine can damage the delicate wool fibers, alter their shape, and cause potential shrinkage or distortion of the doll.
You can either hand wash or use a delicate cycle in the machine for the doll’s clothes, just remember to place them inside a pillowcase.
All fabrics used for making the dolls and their clothes are washed before sewing with hypoallergenic enzymes detergent.
NOTE: Each doll’s face is carefully hand-embroidered, so please handle it with care and avoid pulling the threads.
Dressing and undressing the dolls
When it comes to dressing and undressing, their clothes can be gently removed from the feet. While there may be a charming bow on the doll’s head, it is securely sewn on and not meant to be removed.
